!Contamination Tips

Bag Food Scraps, Leave Yard Waste Loose

Yucaipa has a specific organics rule: you must bag and tie your food scraps (using any type of bag) before throwing them in the green barrel, but all grass, leaves, and twigs must be thrown in loose.

Keep Plastic Bags Out of the Blue Bin

While you use plastic bags for your food waste in the green bin, they are strictly prohibited in the blue recycling bin. Drop off plastic grocery bags at local supermarkets instead.

No Wipes Down the Pipes

Sanitary and cleaning wipes are not flushable, nor are they recyclable. Even if a package says 'flushable,' always throw wipes and soiled paper towels directly into the black trash barrel.

Seasonal Information

Winter

December - January

Beginning December 26th and continuing for approximately two weeks, Burrtec provides free curbside Christmas tree collection. Trees taller than 6 feet must be cut in half, and flocked trees will be collected as trash rather than compost.

Spring

March - May

For major spring cleaning or home renovation projects, residents who need more capacity than the 4 free bulky pickups can contact Burrtec to rent a temporary 3-cubic-yard rent-a-bin for a nominal fee.

Autumn

September - November

During heavy fall trimming, if you have extra yard waste that won't fit in the green cart, you may tie it into bundles. Bundles must not exceed 4 feet in length, 2 feet in diameter, and 65 pounds.

About Yucaipa Waste Management

Tax Roll Billing for Seamless Refuse Service

In the City of Yucaipa, single-family residential trash, recycling, and green waste services are billed directly through your annual San Bernardino County property tax bill. This streamlined tax-roll billing system eliminates delinquent service fees, drastically reduces paper waste from monthly invoices, and ensures uninterrupted neighborhood collections. Low-volume households can even lower their annual assessment by requesting a smaller 15-gallon refuse barrel.

Unique SB 1383 Compliance: Bag Your Food Waste

To combat greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with California Senate Bill 1383, Yucaipa residents must recycle organic food waste. However, Burrtec has a highly specific local rule: all food scraps and food-soiled paper must be securely tied inside a bag (plastic or paper, not necessarily compostable) before being tossed into the green organics barrel. Regular yard trimmings and grass should remain loose in the same bin.

Accessibility with the Elderly & Disabled Pull-Out Service

Recognizing that moving heavy 90-gallon carts can be challenging for some, Burrtec offers a specialized 'Pull-Out Service' completely free of charge for eligible elderly or disabled residents. If approved, drivers will safely retrieve the barrels from your property and return them after emptying, ensuring equal access to sanitation services for all Yucaipa citizens.

Four Annual Bulky Item Cleanups

Keeping Yucaipa beautiful is easy with the city's generous bulky waste program. Every residential household is entitled to four free curbside bulky item collections per calendar year (typically scheduled during the second week of February, May, August, and November). Whether it's an old mattress, a broken appliance, or e-waste like a television, you can discard up to five massive items per pickup.

Free Compost and Community Shred Events

Yucaipa actively promotes a circular economy and secure waste disposal. The city regularly hosts free Community Shred Events at the Yucaipa Community Center, allowing residents to safely destroy up to four boxes of confidential documents. Furthermore, free compost generated from the city's organic recycling efforts is available year-round for residents to collect across from the local Equestrian Center.
