County Route Collections

Florida residential routes generally operate Monday through Friday. Your specific household collection depends on your local county zoning map.

Set bins out: Usually by 6:00 AM

State Mandate

Do not mix yard trimmings with regular household garbage.

Green Cart Bin (Trash)

All garbage must be bagged and tied before being placed inside the cart. The lid must be completely closed. Place the cart curbside by 7:00 a.m. with the arrows facing the street and handles facing the house.

Accepted Items

  • Bagged household garbage
  • Food waste
  • Non-recyclable plastics
  • Animal manure (if cart weighs less than 75 lbs total)

Beige Cart Bin (Recycling)

Leave items loose in the cart (do not bag them). Source separation is strictly required by the Town to maintain sorting habits, even though the materials currently go to the Waste-to-Energy facility.

Accepted Items

  • Plastic containers
  • Metal cans
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Paper and cardboard

Do NOT Include

  • Plastic bags
  • Food waste
  • Tanglers and hoses
  • Styrofoam

Yard Waste Bin

Collected during monthly bulk pickup. Limbs max 5 ft long and 75 lbs. Loose items like leaves must be in heavy-duty plastic bags weighing no more than 50 lbs. Palm fronds do not need to be cut.

Accepted Items

  • Tree limbs and trunks
  • Palm fronds
  • Bagged leaves and loose material

Bulky Item Pickup

Frequency

Once a month on a scheduled collection day.

Placement

Place items curbside no earlier than the Saturday before your pickup day and have them out by 7:00 a.m. on collection day. Keep away from cars, mailboxes, and overhead wires.

Accepted

  • Furniture and mattresses
  • Carpets and rolled wire/cable
  • Large appliances (Freon must be removed by a certified dealer)
  • Tree limbs (max 5 ft / 75 lbs) and palm fronds

Not Accepted

  • Commercial or landscaper waste
  • Hazardous waste (motor oil, paint, pesticides)
  • Loose leaves or twigs (unless bagged)
  • Automobile parts

If your pile exceeds 15 cubic yards, it will be tagged and left behind. You must then call Coastal Waste to schedule a special pickup and pay a per-yard overage fee (approximately $18.15+ per yard).

Holiday Schedule

General Rule

The Town of Davie and Coastal Waste only suspend solid waste services on Christmas Day. If your collection falls on Christmas, your trash will be skipped and collected on your NEXT regularly scheduled service day.

Yard Waste Exception

Monthly bulk pickup scheduled for Christmas Day will also be shifted to a specific makeup day later that same week.

For all other major holidays like Thanksgiving or New Year's Day, collection routes operate on a completely normal schedule.

!Contamination Tips

Tape Your Glass for Bulk Pickup

If you are throwing out large glass items like mirrors, windowpanes, or glass tabletops during your monthly bulk pickup, Davie requires you to place them in a rigid container and heavily tape them up to prevent shattering and protect the collection crews.

No Extra Bags on the Ground

Coastal Waste uses fully automated side-loading trucks. Any extra garbage bags placed on top of or next to your green cart will simply be left behind. If you consistently have too much trash, you must contact Coastal Waste to rent an additional cart.

Keep Your Manure Weight Down

Uniquely, Davie allows residents to dispose of animal manure in their green garbage carts. However, the cart cannot weigh more than 75 pounds total, or the automated arm will fail to safely lift it and your cart will be skipped.

Seasonal Information

Hurricane Season

June - November

Do not place massive 15-cubic-yard bulk piles or unbundled tree limbs at the curb if a tropical storm watch is issued for Broward County, as high winds will turn these piles into severe hazards and projectiles.

Quarterly Condo Bulk Pickups

February, May, August, November

While single-family homes receive monthly bulk pickups, residents in condos or multifamily buildings with dumpsters only receive bulk service four times a year. Always coordinate with your HOA for designated drop zones.

Annual Shred-A-Thon Events

February, June, October

The Town of Davie hosts free Shred-A-Thon and Prescription Drug Drop-off events multiple times a year at local parks to help residents securely destroy confidential documents and safely dispose of medication.

About Davie Waste Management

Zoned Collection and Automated Cart Placement

The Town of Davie divides its collection routes into three geographic zones relative to Flamingo Road and Pine Island Road. Coastal Waste & Recycling provides twice-weekly automated garbage collection. To ensure your green garbage cart and beige recycling cart are serviced without interruption, you must place them within two feet of the street and maintain a strict three-foot clearance from trees, mailboxes, poles, and parked cars.

The Waste-to-Energy Recycling Strategy

Davie utilizes a highly unique approach to its recycling program. Due to severe contamination rates and shifts in the global recycling market, the town currently sends both household garbage and separated recyclables to the Wheelabrator South Broward Waste-to-Energy plant. Here, metals are recovered and the remainder is incinerated to generate electricity. Despite this, the town mandates that residents continue to source-separate their materials into the beige recycling cart so the community is fully prepared to transition back to traditional recycling when a local, government-run facility opens.

Maximizing the 15-Cubic-Yard Bulk Allowance

Once a month, Davie residents are entitled to a massive bulk trash pickup of up to 15 cubic yards—roughly the size of a standard passenger car (15 feet long, 7 feet wide, and 4 feet deep). If your pile exceeds this generous limit, Coastal Waste will tag the debris and leave it behind, requiring you to schedule and pay a per-yard fee for the overage. Ensure all loose leaves and small twigs are bagged (under 50 pounds) because the mechanical claw trucks cannot scoop up scattered debris.

Accessing Broward County's Drop-Off Centers

For hazardous items that cannot wait for your monthly bulk day, Davie residents have free access to the Broward County Residential Drop-off program. The closest location is the Central Drop-Off Center on Reese Road, which is open on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You must bring a photo ID and an official document proving your Davie residency, such as a property tax bill or utility bill, to drop off electronics or household chemicals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my recycling go to the Waste-to-Energy plant in Davie?

Due to high contamination rates and the collapse of the global recycling market, it became too expensive for Davie to process traditional recyclables. Currently, items in your beige cart are incinerated at the Wheelabrator plant to create electricity. However, the town strictly requires you to keep separating recyclables so residents are ready when a new local recycling facility opens.

Can I throw loose leaves in my monthly bulk pile?

No. The claw trucks used by Coastal Waste cannot scoop up loose debris like piles of leaves, small twigs, or grass clippings. All loose yard waste must be placed in strong plastic bags weighing no more than 50 pounds. However, tree limbs (up to 5 feet) and palm fronds can be left unbagged.

What is the bulk trash limit in Davie?

Davie offers a very generous bulk limit of 15 cubic yards per month, which is roughly the size of a standard passenger car. If you exceed this limit, the pile will be tagged and left behind, and you will have to call Coastal Waste to schedule a pickup for a per-yard overage fee.

Are my garbage days affected by Thanksgiving?

No. In the Town of Davie, the only holiday that Coastal Waste observes with no collection is Christmas Day. On Thanksgiving, New Year's Day, and all other federal holidays, your garbage, recycling, and bulk services will occur on their normal schedule.
