Trash must be placed in standard trash cans (up to 32 gallons) or heavy-duty plastic trash bags. No individual can or bag may exceed 50 pounds. Place curbside within 3 to 5 feet of the road by 6:00 a.m. on collection day.

Yard Waste Bin
Must be bagged, bundled, or in a 32-gallon can (max 50 lbs). Branches, shrubs, and stumps cannot exceed 6 feet in length or 50 lbs. Stack large amounts neatly parallel to the curb.

Standard furniture is picked up free of charge. However, appliances (white goods) require calling the county to schedule, and excessive C&D remodeling debris must be hauled away privately or taken to a transfer station for a fee ($67.26 per ton).
Holiday Schedule
General Rule
There is no garbage, yard waste, or recycling collection on Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's Day. Service days are typically pushed back by one day for the remainder of the holiday week.
Yard Waste Exception
Yard waste collections follow the same holiday delay schedule as regular household garbage.
County Transfer Stations (Stratton Road and Tillman Ridge) are also completely closed on these three major holidays.

June to NovemberIf a tropical storm or hurricane watch is issued for St. Johns County, immediately secure all loose yard waste, bulk items, and recycling carts in a garage to prevent them from becoming dangerous projectiles. Do not put new debris at the curb.
Winter Holidays
December to JanuaryFollowing the holidays, you can flatten and cut large shipping boxes into 3'x3' pieces to stack next to your recycling cart. Alternatively, you can drop off unlimited flat cardboard at the Stratton Road Transfer Station.
Summer
May to SeptemberFlorida's intense heat and afternoon thunderstorms can easily scatter loose trash. Double-bag all food waste and ensure standard garbage cans have tight-fitting lids to deter raccoons, rodents, and severe odors.
