Holiday Schedule

General Rule

There is no trash or recycling collection on observed city holidays. If your normal pickup falls on a holiday, your service will typically resume on your next regularly scheduled collection day.

Yard Waste Exception

Yard waste is collected alongside regular trash and is subject to the same holiday delays and suspension rules.

Even if your pickup is delayed by a holiday, empty containers must still be removed from the curb by 6:00 p.m. on your collection day to avoid a $50 city penalty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Cumberland collect recycling and trash on the same day?

Yes, but with a unique split schedule. Co-mingled containers (plastic, glass, metal) are collected on your FIRST trash day of the week, while mixed paper and cardboard are collected on your SECOND trash day [3.1.5].

How much does a bulk trash pickup cost in Cumberland?

Bulk items are priced by weight category. Small items under 50 pounds are $8.23, large items between 50 and 150 pounds are $16.49, and white goods (large appliances) are $49.48 per item.

When can I put my trash cans on the curb?

Garbage and recycling cannot be placed out before dusk on the day before collection. Furthermore, all empty containers must be removed from the curb by 6:00 p.m. on collection day to avoid a $50 penalty.

Can I use cardboard boxes to hold my extra garbage?

No. The City of Cumberland strictly forbids using cardboard boxes as trash containers because they easily deteriorate when wet, leading to scattered litter across the streets.
