Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If an observed holiday falls on a Monday, your trash, recycling, and yard waste collection will be delayed by one day, shifting the Davison service day to Tuesday for that specific week.
Yard Waste Exception
Because the yard waste season ends on December 1st, winter holiday delays only affect standard household trash and bi-weekly recycling routes.
If a major holiday falls on a weekend, your standard Monday collection schedule will remain completely unaffected.
Observed Holidays
!Contamination Tips
Keep the Tanglers Out
Never throw electrical cords, wire coat hangers, Christmas lights, or garden hoses into your recycling cart. These items act as 'tanglers' and cause severe mechanical damage to the sorting equipment at the recycling facility.
No Dirt or Root Balls
When packing your yard waste bags during a landscaping project, ensure you remove as much dirt as possible. Priority Waste will not collect bags filled with sod, heavy dirt, rocks, or large root balls, as they easily exceed the 50-pound limit.
The Pizza Box Grease Rule
While cardboard is a fantastic recyclable material, grease ruins paper fibers. Tear off the clean top of your pizza box to recycle it, and throw the grease-stained bottom half straight into your regular trash cart.
Seasonal Information
Spring
AprilThe dedicated yard waste collection season officially begins on April 1st. Ensure your overwintered brush and early lawn clippings are properly packed in paper leaf bags or marked 32-gallon compost cans.
Autumn
October - NovemberAs fall leaves heavily cover Genesee County, ensure your yard waste bags are placed at least four feet away from your standard rubbish carts so the automated truck drivers can easily identify the separate loads.
Winter
December - MarchYard waste collection officially halts after December 1st. During winter snowstorms, ensure your carts are placed on a shoveled clearing near the street, not perched on top of high snowbanks where automated arms cannot reach them.
About Davison Waste Management
Navigating Solid Waste Services in Davison, MI
The City of Davison proudly partners with Priority Waste to manage all residential refuse, recycling, and compost collection. Known as the 'City of Flags', maintaining clean and beautiful neighborhoods is a community priority. For most residents, all waste collection routes are serviced on Mondays. To ensure successful automated collection, all carts and yard waste bags must be placed at the curb no earlier than 6:00 p.m. the night before and absolutely no later than 7:00 a.m. on Monday morning.
Bi-Weekly Genesee County Recycling
Davison encourages household sustainability through a robust single-stream recycling program. Priority Waste collects recycling every other Monday. Residents must use a properly marked recycling cart, making sure it is placed at least three feet away from regular garbage carts and mailboxes. Acceptable materials include clean cardboard, paper, glass bottles, plastic jugs, and empty metal cans. Priority Waste explicitly asks residents not to bag their recyclables; they must remain loose in the cart.
Hassle-Free Weekly Bulk Item Collection
One of the standout features of Davison's waste contract is the weekly bulk disposal allowance. Instead of waiting for a seasonal community dump day, households can place exactly one large item at the curb every single week alongside their regular Monday trash. Acceptable items include couches, rolled carpet, hot water tanks, and appliances. There is no need to call ahead or schedule a special pickup, making spring cleaning and home upgrades incredibly convenient.
Seasonal Compost and Yard Waste Rules
Because Davison features beautiful mature tree canopies, managing autumn leaves and summer grass clippings is essential. The city's dedicated yard waste program runs continuously from April 1st through December 1st. Residents are required to keep yard debris completely separate from standard household rubbish. All compostable material must be packed in biodegradable brown paper leaf bags or rigid 32-gallon cans clearly labeled with a 'Compost' decal.
