Keep Plastic Bags Out of the Recycling Bin
Never place your recyclables inside plastic grocery or garbage bags. They interfere with sorting equipment. Dump your glass, plastic, and metal items loosely into your bin, and tie your cardboard separately.
Bundle Your Branches Properly
If you are disposing of tree branches on your bulk day, they must be tied and bundled. Ensure the bundle weighs no more than 50 pounds, does not exceed 4 feet in length, and branches are under 10 inches in diameter.
Solidify Your Leftover Paint
Liquid paint will not be collected by Hillside sanitation crews. If you have latex paint, leave the lid off until it is completely solidified before placing it out with your regular trash or bulk items.

Fall
Late October to DecemberDuring the designated leaf collection season, residents can rake leaves into the street, leaving a 4-to-6-inch gap from the curb for drainage. Do not mix in stones, branches, or trash, or piles will be bypassed.
Winter
December to MarchIf snow is forecasted, do not shovel snow into the street or over your trash bins. Sidewalks must be cleared within 12 hours of the snowfall ending, and bins should be easily accessible for sanitation workers.
Spring/Summer
April to SeptemberAs yard work increases, remember that you can pick up free biodegradable leaf bags at the DPW. Filled bags can be placed curbside on your second trash collection day as part of your 3-piece bulk allowance.
