Holiday Schedule
General Rule
Services will be delayed by one day if your service day falls on or after a major holiday. Because Parma Heights collects on Wednesdays, holidays falling on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday push collection to Thursday.
Yard Waste Exception
Yard waste is collected alongside regular trash and follows the exact same holiday delay schedule.
If a holiday falls on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, your Wednesday collection will remain completely unaffected.

Skip the Shredded Paper
While intact office paper, junk mail, and cardboard are easily recycled, shredded paper is strictly prohibited in the Parma Heights recycling cart. The tiny strips blow away easily and severely jam the Republic Services sorting screens.
Bag Trash, But Not Recycling
Republic Services requires all standard garbage to be securely bagged inside your trash cart to prevent litter. However, the exact opposite applies to recycling—never bag your plastics and cans. Always place them completely loose inside the recycling cart.
No Sticks in the Leaf Piles
When raking leaves to the curb for the city's fall vacuum trucks, ensure your piles consist solely of leaves. Mixing in twigs, vines, or rocks will clog the suction tubes and your pile will be skipped.

Winter
JanuaryRepublic Services collects Christmas trees as yard waste. Trees larger than 4 feet tall must be cut in half. Do not place trees in plastic bags, and make sure all lights and decorations are fully removed.

Citywide Wednesday Collection
Parma Heights manages its residential curbside refuse through a uniform city-wide contract with Republic Services. All residential refuse, recycling, and bulk waste are collected strictly on Wednesdays. To guarantee collection, the city advises placing your carts out the evening prior or no later than 6:00 AM on Wednesday. Carts must be spaced 3 feet apart and away from any stationary objects, with the metal lifting bar facing the street.
Mandatory Mattress and Upholstery Wrapping
Because bed bugs are classified as a public health hazard by the EPA and local health departments, Parma Heights enforces strict bulk pickup rules. Republic Services requires all mattresses, box springs, and upholstered furniture to be completely wrapped in plastic and securely sealed with tape before being left at the curb. Items that are not properly wrapped pose a risk to sanitation workers and will be left behind.
Continuous Fall Leaf Vacuuming
Managing autumn yard debris is a breeze in Parma Heights thanks to the continuous curbside leaf vacuuming provided by the city's Service Department. Running through the first week of December, residents simply need to rake their leaves within 6 feet of the curb. However, it is crucial not to mix sticks, ornamental grasses, pumpkins, or rocks into these piles, as they can severely damage the specialized suction equipment.
Proper Disposal of Latex Paint
A common misconception among residents is that latex paint is hazardous. The Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District and Parma Heights do not accept latex paint at Household Hazardous Waste events. Instead, residents must remove the lid, mix the wet paint with cat litter or sand, and allow it to dry completely. Once solidified, the dried paint can safely be tossed into your regular Wednesday trash cart.
