!Contamination Tips
Loose Recyclables Only
Never place recyclables in plastic bags, as they can jam sorting machinery. All items in the recycling cart must remain loose.
Close the Lid Securely
Overfilled carts with open lids prevent the automated truck's arm from properly grasping and emptying the container.
Exclude Hazardous Materials
Never place batteries, auto fluids, or chemicals in your carts; these require special handling through dedicated hazardous waste programs.

About Rockwall Waste Management
Mandatory Poly Cart Collection System
The City of Rockwall utilizes a streamlined, automated collection system managed by Republic Services. Every residence is equipped with official city-issued poly carts for both trash and recycling. To ensure mechanical service, all garbage must be bagged and placed inside the designated cart so that the lid closes completely. Waste left outside, beside, or on top of these carts will not be collected by automated trucks.
Standardized Once-a-Week Service
In an effort to optimize neighborhood logistics, both residential garbage and recycling are collected only once per week. Residents should have their carts at the curb (or in the designated alleyway) no later than 7:00 a.m. on their scheduled day. For safety and efficiency, keep at least three feet of clearance between carts and any other obstacles, including mailboxes, utility poles, and parked vehicles.
Bulk and Brush Collection Guidelines
Bulk waste and brush services are provided to manage items that exceed the capacity of your poly cart. Residents may set out up to 6 cubic yards of material—roughly equivalent to the volume of six stoves—per collection. To maintain clear right-of-ways, all bulk items and brush must be placed at the front curb, regardless of whether your standard carts are serviced from an alleyway.
Guidelines for Large Debris and Fencing
When preparing bulk piles, ensure items are safely positioned away from trees, low-hanging wires, and water meters. While items like furniture and appliances are accepted, specific restrictions apply to construction-related materials. Fencing segments must be no larger than 6' x 3' x 3', and fence posts with concrete attached, along with railroad ties, are strictly prohibited from curbside collection.
