Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If your scheduled solid waste and recycling collection day falls on or after one of the observed holidays, your service will be delayed by one day for the remainder of that week.
Yard Waste Exception
The weekly brush and bulk allowance pickups follow the exact same holiday delay schedule as the standard trash and recycling routes.
Republic Services observes more holidays than many standard haulers in the area, specifically including Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Always double-check your schedule in January.

Keep Dirt and Concrete Out of the Bulk Pile
When setting out your weekly brush and bulky items, never include dirt, rock, or concrete. These heavy materials severely damage the collection trucks and are strictly listed as unacceptable items by Republic Services.
No Plastic Bags in the Recycling
Never place your recyclables inside plastic grocery bags or garbage bags. The recycling sorting facility utilizes mechanical gears that become jammed by plastic film, meaning bagged recyclables will be treated as regular trash.
Break Down Your Fencing Properly
If you are replacing a backyard fence, you cannot just drag massive wooden panels to the curb. Republic Services requires all fencing debris to be broken down into sections no larger than 4 feet by 6 feet to ensure the trucks can safely load them.

Spring
March - MaySpring landscaping projects generate plenty of yard waste. Remember that if you hire a commercial landscape contractor to cut your trees, city ordinance dictates that the contractor must haul away the debris themselves—Republic Services will not collect contractor-generated waste.
Summer / Fall
July - OctoberDuring heavy summer and fall storms, excess brush may fall in your yard. As long as the pile does not exceed two cubic yards, it can go out on your regular trash day. If it is larger, email a photo of the pile to [email protected] to schedule a paid off-cycle pickup.
Winter

Rowlett's Transition to Republic Services
In September 2024, the City of Rowlett transitioned its solid waste and recycling collection exclusively to Republic Services. This partnership provides weekly residential curbside collection using standard poly carts. If you experience missed pickups or have specific account inquiries, Republic Services dedicated customer support must be contacted directly at 972-422-2341, allowing a 24-hour response window before escalating to the City's Utility Billing department.
The Two-Cubic-Yard Weekly Bulk Allowance
Unlike many Texas cities that only collect bulk items once a month, Rowlett allows residents to place up to two cubic yards of brush and bulky waste curbside every single week on their regular trash day. For visual reference, two cubic yards is roughly the size of a standard washer and dryer. If your pile exceeds this limit, you must contact Republic Services for a quote, as additional volume incurs a $12.60 fee per cubic yard.
Front Street Placement is Mandatory
Even if your standard garbage carts are serviced from a rear alleyway, all brush and bulk items must be placed in the front of your property near the street curb. Rowlett strictly prohibits alley pickups for brush and bulk waste. Ensure these items are set out by 7:00 a.m., neatly stacked, and placed away from water meters, fire hydrants, sidewalks, and parked cars to ensure safe automated collection.
Free Semi-Annual Landfill Perks
When a major cleanout generates too much waste for the weekly two-cubic-yard bulk allowance, Rowlett provides a free alternative. Residents can dispose of debris at no charge at the C.M. Hinton Landfill twice per calendar year. To take advantage of this benefit, you must first obtain an official Landfill Pass from the City of Rowlett and bring it with you to the facility.
