Standard residential bulky items are collected for free. Out-of-compliance debris or construction materials require scheduling a 'Pay Pile' collection with Public Works at $5 per cubic yard.
Holiday Schedule
General Rule
Garbage will not be collected on the six observed holidays. If your scheduled pickup falls on a holiday, your garbage will simply be collected on your next regularly scheduled collection day rather than shifting by a single day.
Yard Waste Exception
Weekly brush and bulky item collections scheduled on a holiday will also be deferred until the next scheduled cycle for your address.
While the waste company technically has the option to collect trash on a holiday if operationally necessary, residents should generally expect skipped service and plan accordingly.

Use Clear Bags for Grass Clippings
Texas City sanitation crews must be able to verify yard waste. All leaves and lawn clippings must be placed exclusively in clear or translucent bags. If you use standard opaque garbage bags, they will not be collected as yard waste.
Separate Construction Debris
Never mix sheetrock, roofing materials, or fencing into your standard bulk or brush piles. Construction materials contaminate standard loads and must be disposed of via the city's Pay Pile service or directly at Biosphere 1.
Tag Your Old Refrigerators
Before placing an old refrigerator or window A/C unit out for your weekly bulk pickup, you must hire a certified technician to legally remove the CFCs (Freon). The appliance must have an official tag to be collected by the city.

Automated Twice-Weekly Garbage Services
Texas City partners with Waste Connections of Texas (WCT) to provide efficient automated residential garbage collection twice a week. Every household is provided with a 96-gallon roll cart designed specifically for these automated trucks. Unlike older collection methods, Texas City no longer services alleyways; all carts must be placed directly in front of the home by the street, facing forward with at least two feet of clearance on all sides.
Biosphere 1 Recycle Center Drop-Off
Curbside recycling is currently suspended in Texas City as regional recycling markets stabilize. However, eco-conscious residents can actively recycle by visiting the Biosphere 1 Recycle Center located on 25th Avenue North. The center accepts standard recyclables like cardboard, plastics #1 and #2, and even clear and colored glass. Remember to bring a current Texas City utility bill to prove local residency when dropping off materials.

Maintaining Texas City's coastal landscapes generates significant yard waste, which the city collects once a week.
