!Contamination Tips

Keep Sticks Out of the Leaf Sweep

During the city's fall leaf collection, ensure your piles consist solely of leaves. Mixing in grass clippings, sticks, rocks, or trash will severely clog and damage the Public Works Department's vacuum equipment.

Never Bag Your Recyclables

Plastic grocery bags and trash bags ruin the automated sorting process at Rumpke's material recovery facilities. Always place your cardboard, plastics, and cans completely loose in your recycling cart.

Dispose of Sharps Safely

Medical needles and syringes must never be placed in recycling. They should be secured inside a hard plastic container with a taped lid, clearly labeled 'SHARPS', and disposed of in your regular trash cart.

Seasonal Information

Fall

October - December

The five-zone municipal leaf collection runs from October 27 through December 19. Call the Public Works Hotline at 937-847-6454 for real-time updates on which zone the crews are currently servicing.

Winter

December - February

During periods of heavy snow and ice, keep your Rumpke carts clear of snowplow paths. Freezing temperatures can also cause unbagged trash to freeze to the inside of the cart, delaying collection.

Spring/Summer

March - September

With the leaf vacuum inactive, all yard debris must either be bagged for regular Rumpke trash pickup or hauled to the Montgomery County Solid Waste District in Moraine for free drop-off.

About Miamisburg Waste Management

Consolidated Services Through Rumpke

The City of Miamisburg simplifies residential waste management by contracting directly with Rumpke. Since 2013, Rumpke has provided dependable, standardized weekly trash and recycling collections for residents. Because the service is managed under a municipal contract, residents can direct general questions or report missed pickups directly to the Miamisburg Public Works Department at 937-847-6635.

Strict Regulations for Bulk Furniture

When clearing out old furniture or replacing a bed, Miamisburg residents must adhere to strict sanitation guidelines enforced by Rumpke. To protect collection crews from potential bedbug exposure or biohazards, all mattresses, box springs, and upholstered furniture must be completely wrapped in plastic and securely sealed with duct tape. Items left unwrapped will be tagged and left at the curb.

Five-Zone Fall Leaf Vacuum Program

Autumn yard maintenance is made easier in Miamisburg through a specialized loose-leaf collection service. Running from late October through mid-December, the Public Works Department deploys vacuum trucks across five designated city zones. Crews aim to service each zone up to four times during the season. To participate, residents must rake leaves loosely to the curb line—bagged leaves are strictly prohibited during this sweep.

Refuse Fee Reduction Program

Miamisburg offers a highly beneficial Refuse Fee Reduction Program aimed at helping low-income households manage utility costs. Eligible residents who meet the income qualifications can apply for a massive 50 percent reduction on their city refuse bill. This discount is granted for one full year, and households must reapply by May 31st annually to maintain the reduced rate.

Free County Yard Waste Drop-Off

If you miss the city's leaf collection window, or if you generate heavy summer brush that overwhelms your Rumpke trash cart, you have a free disposal alternative. Miamisburg residents, as part of Montgomery County, can drop off yard waste free of charge at the Montgomery County Solid Waste District Transfer and Recycling Facility located on Encrete Lane in nearby Moraine.
